Calendar integration issues help
Key changes
- An error message now shows if a company tries to send a calendar invite for a time range with no availability
- If a person tries to book a calendar event but sees no availability, an email is sent to the company user
- A company will also be notified of this in their Messaging inbox with the candidate
- The person will be told that the company has been notified
Why?
Companies want to be able to get interviews booked quickly, and engineers want to be able to easily book into the calendar. However, we receive a high volume of tickets in Support that are due to the Google calendar integration not working as the user expects.
Very often the company user has events blocking their calendar which means there are no available slots for the engineer to book in. The engineer tries to book, but can't, and tells the company user, who says it's not an issue on their side… which leads to back and forth with Support and a frustrating experience for all users.
What?
4 small updates that will prevent this frustrating experience from happening again.
- If a company user attaches a calendar invite to send to an engineer (whether from messages or streams) but there is no availability, they will not be able to send the message and will see an error message prompting them to check their availability and remove any blocking events.
- Email if an invite has already been sent, but there is now no availability, the company user will receive an email prompting them to check their calendar and remove blocking events
- The company user will also see an error message in their inbox
- In the above event, the engineer will see an error message in their inbox that says the company user has been informed, and to check again later.
How?
More great work from our team. Thanks to Anna (PO) for running this project and helping us prioritise and release it, and thanks to Jiyeon (FE) for bringing it all together on the front end.
What next?
With this release, we’ve wrapped up our Bugs, UX/UI Issues project, so we’re moving on to focusing on bigger bets to improve our user experience. This includes how we can help engineers find more relevant positions, and help companies for more relevant people.
