Create a stream

What a stream is and how to create one

💡
Streams are filtered views of the people actively looking for work on cord.

Editing your streams so that they show relevant people for your position is the number one most important thing for hiring on cord.

Streams will mean you are notified of new people looking for work immediately and allow you to message them quickly at the start of their job search.

Watch our 5 minute video on how to build and manage Streams.

How do streams work?

  1. New people who fit your search criteria will enter your streams as soon as they start looking for work.
  1. You will be notified of these new people instantly, by email (or by Slack if you connected your account).
  1. You can create multiple streams, link one or more positions that you're hiring for to them, use them individually or share the with your colleagues.

How should I build my stream criteria?

You should build 1 stream for each position/skill set you are hiring for. Your stream criteria should aim to exclude all the people you know will be irrelevant and leaving all of the ones that may be relevant.

We would not recommend building your streams to find the one perfect person, as it will mean you will put yourself at risk of missing good, relevant people.

To achieve this, we would recommend building a stream using:

Job Titles

  • Consider the types of people you are looking for

Core skills

People list 3 core skills on their profile and can add up to 5 other skills. Filtering by core skills you search those first 3 skills on a person’s profile.

  • Remember, by default, it will search for these skills as an "OR" function (i.e. people with Ruby OR Javascript in their core skills) you can change this to an "AND" function using the toggle (i.e. people with Ruby AND Javascript in their core skills)

Other skills

  • Using this filter will look for the skill in either the core or other skills, it can be a great way to refine the stream further
  • You could consider these skills as "nice to haves" or supplementary skills to the core skills
  • Remember, using the core skill search and all skill search in conjunction will create an AND function (i.e. people with Ruby OR Javascript in their core skills AND python in either their core or other skills)

Seniorities

Filter by Entry, Junior, Mid, Senior, Lead, and Leadership to ensure you're only seeing people with the right amount of experience

Boolean Search

This is a keyword search, it will bring up people that have these keywords anywhere on their profile

Current location

You can filter per location using cities, regions, states, countries or continents (you can also include people willing to relocate within your required location)

Other useful filters

  • Salary range
  • Remote Preference
  • Work eligibility
  • Underrepresented groups

Should you wish to build a more specific stream, we would recommend doing this as an addition to this stream, rather than as a replacement, to ensure you consistently see new people each day.

Include

  • Candidates previously dealt with: people you had an interaction with (message requests, conversation started, etc.)
  • Hidden candidates: people you have hidden
  • Passives candidates: people not actively looking for work
